30 April, 2019 featuring: Aïssa Sica
“Women of Color: Does Representation Matter?”
Start: 19.30

Please join us in welcoming Aïssa Sica to be’kech, where she will begin with a presentation about herself, including the work she conducts on her blog, before opening up the discussion to the audience to debate on the experiences of women of colour.

“She is Aïssa, she is 26 years old. She grew up in France and has a Senegalese and Guinean background. She has studied foreign applied languages, applied to international trade. She has been living in Germany for 2 years, and has also lived in Belgium and in Italy. She is currently working as a junior SEO manager in a marketing agency, having started her blog in February 2018 by only interviewing afro-descendant women”.

Aïssa had the idea for this event after thinking about her stay in Naples and her life in general, how stereotypes have an impact on her daily life; for instance, in the form of hypersexualiztion and fetishization”. Her blog aims to empower women of colour and increase awareness and representation. Women of color are regularly confined to a few seen examples in the media. For her, representation matters and needs to be improved because it has aspects that affect self-esteem and self-confidence. With low self-esteem and self-confidence, we limit ourselves.
