· ABOUT ·
Maria-Gracia Latedjou is a singersongwriter, violinist and visual artist. Língua Livre is the title of her second EP, an album resulting from a minimalist and independent production. As was her first EP, O Baile dos Sentidos (listen here) Língua Livre was recorded in Luanda, where she is currently based.
Línga Livre is Maria-Gracia Latedjou’s second EP, a self-produced album composed of 8 songs. The EP reflects on notions of language and identity. Written between Benin and Angola, it was recorded in Luanda. “Língua livre” means “free tongue” in Portuguese, the official language of state in Angola. Amongst other things, the title of the EP problematises this
“officiallity” in a place where language, identity and cultural diversity is greater than it, although commonly made less visible where it should be represented. To challenge the rigidity of this “officiallity” is to influence it with some idea of freedom through questions, loose words, sonic atmospheres, thoughts and provocations. Thus, “língua livre”.
