· Hammam Talks حَمّام توكس ·

A monthly women* talkshow, brought to you by be’kech, Rasha Hilwi & Abir Ghattas

Topic of this month: Arab feminism in these days.

Next edition:
WED, October 2nd, 2019
Start: 19.30 h

Special guest for this episode: Ranwa Yehia

Each month, a group of women* will meet in the lounge of be’kech to talk about stories that matter to women*’s lives, bodies and souls. They will meet and share with you what is on their minds in an open, raw, honest, real and judgement-free way.

The idea started when the two friends Rasha Hilwi and Abir Ghattas decided to share their stories with other women* and to create a public yet safe space. This space was offered by Louna Sbou and Nina Martin, the founders of be’kech.

In Arabic, Persian and Turkish, “hammam” translates to “bath”. It implies a public space where women* (and also men*, separately) go to cleanse and relax. In addition, it has also been a safe space to talk about almost everything.

We wanted to bring the concept of “Hammam” or “Hamam” to the stage, and to open it up to the public as a monthly interactive talk-show by and for women*. We aim to reclaim a public space and to make it safe for women* from marginalized communities to speak out, share and support each other.

PS: “By including the asterisk in women*, we want to draw attention to our understanding of gender as a social construct and to the fact that all genders are emphatically welcome to Hammam Talks”.

Hosted by Rasha Hilwi and Abir Ghattas with Ranwa Yehia as our guest for this episode.

This event is free to attend and open to all – we look forward to seeing you there! Please support our space by ordering a drink or two!
