#TuesdayTalks presents i-MED vision’s work in South Africa

i-MED vision, a German-based NGO whose mission is to improve the health and development of children in southern Africa, will present on how their methods are sustainable. They employ a “train the trainer” concept for health educators, and they also are in the process of developing a mobile app which takes advantage of the growth surge of smart devices use in places like South Africa.

Dr. Bärbel Reckhardt is a German paediatrician, organizational consultant, and CEO and Co-Founder of i-MED vision. After finishing medical school at the Private Universität Witten Herdecke, she worked for approximately 25 years as a paediatrician in several hospitals and in her own private practice. Additionally, she has been committed to development assistance in southern Africa for more than 20 years. She founded i-MED vision to pursue a dream of improving medical care and increasing development opportunities for the children in low-income countries through targeted health education and training. Through her experiences in South Africa, she became aware of the need for digital solutions to make healthcare knowledge more accessible and easier to update and retain.

Dr. Markus Reckhardt is the Chief Financial Officer and co-founder of i-MED vision. He has been a neurologist and psychiatrist for approximately 30 years. Currently, he is the head of the Center for Neurology and Pain Management at the Klinikum Niederlausitz. Additionally, he is a professor at the Institute of Medical Informatics at the Brandenburgische Technische University Cottbus. He founded i-MED vision together with Bärbel Reckhardt and shares the same passion of using technology to improve health outcomes for children.

Dr. Rick Hoffman is the Director of Development and Program Manager for i-MED vision. He has a PhD in Sociology in which his dissertation focused on social determinants of health outcomes. Previously he worked and volunteered in fundraising, event planning, and administration for several years for various non-profit and government organizations related to health, nutrition, and humanitarian work in the United States and the United Arab Emirates. He joined i-MED vision because he believes in its mission to accomplish wide scale and sustainable change through the power of digital health education.
